During the Cape midwinter the scenic seaside village of Gordon’s Bay erupts into a fairyland of lights and friendly activity with the Winter Wonderland Festival of lights.  Come visit us in gorgeous Gordon’s Bay for some days of fun, fresh air, good food, lovely accommodation and plenty of activities.

Winter Wonderland Festival postponed to 2021

The Covid 19 pandemic together with the National Lock Down has forced us to abandon the festival for this year 2020 and postpone the Gordon’s Bay Winter Wonderland Festival 2021!

Every day at the Festival will be a new adventure, with foods from all over the world, craft stalls to do some shopping, music, a beer tent, a fun park, the ghost house and lots more.

The ‘Parade of Lights’, will open the festival with marching bands, drum majorettes, and some 40 participants. The Parade will lead spectators along the beachfront past amazing restaurants, which offer warming winter fare.

This annual event has become a major attraction on the Cape winter calendar. Winter is Gordon’s Bay’s ‘Secret Season’ –  not only providing a magnificent  Rivera – facing sunny north over False Bay, protected from cold west winds, but the village is also warmer than surrounding areas making this the ideal winter break-away destination even for Capetonians, only 50 minutes away!

Winter Wonderland is a non-profit community initiative aimed at developing the village while collecting much-needed funds for our local charities.  The locals residents are encouraged to take part in Winter Wonderland to promote community spirit and to provide the participants with an opportunity to offer their products and services to supplement their income.

The Winter Wonderland is an initiative of the Gordon’s Bay Business Forum, which was established in 2009 to provide the local business people with a platform for the exchange of ideas and information.

The first Winter Wonderland Festival was held in 2010. With the support of Gordon’s Bay Business Forum members and the local authorities, planning started a mere four months prior to the event with absolutely no funds, only a big dream and bags full of enthusiasm. All advertising was at no cost, the community (those who knew about it) and businesses supported and sponsored money for lights.

On the spectacular Whale Route, with dozens of activities within a few minutes’ drives, Gordon’s Bay is an ideal base for your adventures. Guest houses are offering specials rates and  Winter Wonderland is an ideal opportunity for visitors to stay overnight, enjoy the attractions and bring family and friends to join the fun!
